Senior Accountant- Fixed Asset Accounting at Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, Chicago, IL

 

Job Summary:

Responsible for more complex activities associated with maintaining ledger accounts and cost accounting applications and for developing financial statements and reports. Responsible for review and creating documentation for the Bank's SOX program as well as testing the key controls identified. Most senior level of accountant without supervisory responsibility. May provide training and mentoring to other staff. The level of work required is considered advanced and staff must be able to work under minimal supervision. This job does not have any direct reports.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:* Essential Duties

  • Maintains accounting systems for the District
  • Provides support, training, and assistance to Financial Institutions, employees, operating departments, and other Reserve Banks
  • Participates in District and System wide testing of accounting and financial applications
  • Involved in accounting-related activities, including fixed asset acquisitions and disposals, etc., that require maintenance and/or processing adjustments
Maintains and reviews security access to accounting systems
  • Serves as a key contact with several Bank departments for capital purchase inquiries
  • May review other staffmembers'  work as a senior staff member
  • Works with internal controls and responsible for identifying key controls for SOX
  • Position Requirements:Education & Experience:

    • Bachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting or equivalent experience as noted below
    • 3 to 5 plus years of direct work related experience
    • CPA preferred

    • Independent thinking and decision-making abilities
    • Possesses and applies both specific and broad knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures of the field of specialization to the completion of assignments
    • Proficient knowledge of current technology and software applications, including ability to create and modify complex spreadsheets (Microsoft applications)
    • Possesses strong verbal and written communication skills
    • Possesses analytical skills and ability to apply, interpret, and explain analysis of financial data
    • Demonstrated capacity to work well in a team environment
