Job Description
Perform engineering assignments as part of a work team involved in the planning, organization and developing of capital projects for The Carriage House Companies. Determine the mechanical and fluid system design required for the proper operation of building, processing and packaging systems to ensure quality, cost and efficiency requirements are met. Troubleshoot problems with maintenance and production and take corrective action. Research the purchase of equipment or upgrades to existing equipment. Safely and accurately performs all duties as required for this position under direction of company designated personnel to ensure the safety and quality of our products. Responsible for ensuring that employees who are providing coverage for the absence of key personnel are properly trained, qualified, and experienced to undertake the tasks at the level required so as not to compromise the safety and quality of our products.

· Manage the Capital Planning System as part of the Engineering group with conceptualization, planning and budgeting for long term and short term capital projects.
· Manage the implementation of assigned capital and plant projects. Coordinate the work of all plant personnel, contractors and vendors required to provide a timely completion of work with minimal disruption of production activities.
· Apply engineering mathematical and scientific principles to engineering capital and plant projects from concept to implementation, start-up and training follow up.
Apply all aspects of engineering and supervision for successful completion of capital projects involving food processing and packaging, as well as building and support systems.
· Maintain a liaison with the Maintenance and Operations Departments for new developments requiring mechanical/fluid process design support.
· Research equipment and materials to accomplish the needs for new or revised processes, packaging or products at the best reasonable cost.
· Develop or revise mechanical/fluid systems to meet the requirements of Maintenance and Operations using sound engineering and good food manufacturing practices using the input from all concerned Plant Departments.
· Develop mechanical and piping layouts for building, processing, packaging, etc., systems to meet the requirements of the Maintenance and Operations Departments.
· Provide project cost estimates for mechanical/processing equipment, materials, installation, etc.
· Provide engineering design documents for capital projects including equipment selection, plant layout, equipment specifications, Contractor installation specifications, etc., for competitive bids.
· Prepare or assist in preparation of capital and plant project documents used in submitting for project funding approvals. Provide three competitive quotes for all areas required and complete the project evaluation forms for establishing projects.
· As projects are approved, prepare and follow up on all project purchase requisitions and purchase orders.
· Resolve all field problems relating to project implementation.
· Monitor all projects to ensure projects are completed within approved budgets.
· When assigned, act as project manager for those completed projects requiring coordination and planning of many different disciplines, including supervising, coordinating and directing the efforts of outside consultants if needed.
· Provide status reports on all active capital and plant projects as assigned.
· Provide engineering assistance to Carriage House personnel in developing ESP/CRD ideas into viable projects, including cost estimates when required.
· Provide engineering assistance to the Maintenance Department for maintenance work orders so that W.O.’s are completed in a reasonable time frame and at an optimal cost.
· Provide/arrange for equipment training assistance for the Maintenance staff.
· Personally submit ESP/CRD ideas that will result in an annual savings of $35,000.
· Provide the other Carriage House Companies divisions with engineering support as needed and directed.


Authority

· Expenditures up to $2500 within the scope of any project.
· Expenditures of any amount with RFA approval.

Miscellaneous expenditures to $1000.

Bachelors of Science degree in Engineering or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
· Minimum of 3 years project experience in food processing environment.
· Ability to read, analyze, and interpret engineering type documents and drawings.
· Strong math skills.
· Excellent reasoning skills – able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and make conclusions.
· Able to handle several projects/tasks at one time.
· Strong interpersonal skills
· Excellent communication skills with good listening skills.
