College of Health Science-Adjunct Faculty-Nursing Program at Mercy Medical Center Des Moines, Des Moines, IA

Job Summary: 

To assist the College in fulfilling its mission by facilitating student acquisition of the required knowledge, attitudes, and skills, which are to be found in a college-educated person and which are necessary for success in the student's chosen career in the health sciences. Responsibilities include maintaining expertise in one's field of study and developing, implementing, and evaluating the College and/or program curriculum. Additional responsibilities that may be contracted for include advising students, serving on College and/or program committees and rendering public service.


Essential Duties:

  •  Demonstrates successful teaching as evaluated by students and peers.


  • Demonstrates ability to utilize appropriate, varied and innovative classroom/clinical/field teaching strategies.


  • Maintains a positive and effective learning environment that promotes the best possible development of the individual student.


  • Collaborates with other faculty, preceptors, field faculty, and clinical agencies to provide optimum learning opportunities for students.


  • Provides individual advisement and guidance for intellectual, personal, and professional development of students.


  • Provides supervision and evaluation of student learning experiences.


  • Develops, implements and revises course content in a defined subject area.


  • Mentors inexperienced faculty as appropriate.


  • Participates in the academic activities of the College as appropriate.


  • Demonstrates a high standard of professional and ethical conduct and practice that students may emulate.


  • Abides by policies set forth in College Faculty Handbook.


  • Participates in peer review as appropriate.


  • Contributes to the positive culture of the institution through caring relationships.


  • Actively promotes the aims of the College.


Education:


  • Bachelor's degree with major in appropriate to the teaching area.


Experience:

  •  Teaching experiences appropriate to area of responsibility is preferred.



License/Certification:


  • Valid and Current Iowa RN license..
